God and Country Awards

Classes for the God and Country awards will be held on Sundays, 3:00-4:30 p.m. from Jan. 27-April 7. They will be held at First United Methodist Church-Mesquite, 300 N Galloway in Mesquite 75149. Approximate cost for books and awards is $20. Students will need to bring $5 for each book (a onetime cost) and a Bible, if they have one, and pencil to class. It is projected that awards will, most likely, be handed out Sunday April 14, at the 10:30 a.m. service. Contact Annette James at [email protected] if you have additional questions or to sign up. Please include your child(ren)’s name and grade. Children do not have to be in scouting to attend.

General info on each class:

Grades: 1-3
The God and Me award is designed to help children in 1st through 3rd grades to become best friends with Jesus and tell their story of “God and Me” together. As children learn to lean on God as their Good Shepherd, they will be challenged to reach out and be “good shepherds” to those around them. (This is a 5 week class.)

Grades: 4-6
For 4th through 6th graders, the God and Family award is designed to help youth understand the importance of family and God’s role in a healthy family and provide an opportunity for young people and their families to explore their faith together. (This is a 7 week class.)

Grades: 6-8
The God and Church award, for 6th thorough 8th graders, is designed to lead young people on a journey. It will be a faith journey with three parts: Meeting Jesus, worshiping God, and witnessing and ministering for Christ. (This is an 8-9 week class.)

Grades: 9-12
The final program in the God and Country Series is God and Life. The program is for 9th through 12th graders. Students in the God and Life program will seek to understand their call to a life of discipleship.
